Kathmandu, January 13

Despite expansion of roads, traffic jam continues to be a part of everyday life in the Kathmandu Valley. The problem aggravates, especially at the start and end of business hours.

Aware of this problem, Traffic Police Division will soon use a drone in a bid to lessen traffic jam and manage traffic movement in a better manner. On Friday, NMB Bank handed over a drone to the division for this purpose.

Sabin Pradhan, DSP at the division, said it is a DGI company-manufactured Pentinum4 model drone.

Nepal Police has trained four of its staffers to operate the UAV. One of them, based at the division, will monitor traffic jam in the valley. Pradhan said: During peak hours, we will take pictures of traffic jam hotspots using the drone. We believe analytical studies of the pictures will help us manage road traffic in a better manner.

Police will use the drone especially during office hours. It will also be used during festivals, assemblies and during visits of VIPs.
