Nijgadh Fast-track: Khokana residents smear soot on their own faces in protest

Kathmandu, January 7
Residents of Khokana in southern Kathmandu have smeared soot on their own faces in protest of the Kathmandu-Nijgadh Fast-track which threatens the ancient heritage of the city.
Residents of the city, who gathered in Lachhi, smeared soot on their faces and performed protest songs demanding that the government withdraw its plan to take the fast-track through Khokana.
The residents say that the government is attacking their tradition and culture in the name of fast-track, outer ring road, smart city and tunnel highway.
“We chose a new way of protesting as the government has stopped listening to us,” said Milan Dangol a member of the protest organising committee.
