New sports minister says each province in Nepal will boast international stadium

New Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC speaks with journalists in Kathmandu, on Thursday, August 3, 2017.

Kathmandu, August 3

Newly appointed Minister for Youth and Sports Rajendra Kumar KC says each of seven provinces of Nepal will boast stadiums of international standard.

He also says preventing the sports sector from politics is also one of his priorities.

Speaking with journalists at the Reporter’s Club in the capital today, KC said stadiums would be constructed in major cities of all provinces to develop the sports sector in line with the newly adopted federal structure.

Currently, Nepal has only one stadium in Kathmandu which can be used to host international events, Dasharath Stadium. That too is being renovated now.

“There are many problems in the sports sector. Disputes have surfaced in sport associations including ANFA, Nepal Olympic Committee and Cricket Association,” he said, “All those issues should be resolved.”

He also said he would minimise political interference in the sector.
