After failing to close the Nepal-India border points owing to India’s reluctance to consent, the government of Nepal has decided to track every person who enters Nepal via these border points.

Uma Kanta Adhikari, the information officer in the Ministry of Home Affairs, says the government has directed the Nepal Police, the Armed Police Force and other concerned bodies to keep eye on the people coming to Nepal from India or anywhere.

“They have been told to collect details of the citizens, such as where the returnees are from. We have told them to inform the concerned local government to make them undergo a health checkup and sent to quarantine or home quarantine whenever necessary,” Adhikari says.

Meanwhile, the government has tightened border security in the wake of increasing coronavirus infection cases in India. “We have mobilised our staff to make the border surveillance and the functioning of help desk more effective,” he informs.
