Nepal says it will conduct a census of rhinoceros in March-April next year.
Deputy Director General of the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation, Ram Chandra Kandel, says Rs 11 million has been allocated for the task. The Department will aim to complete the counting in one month, according to him.
The last rhino census was done in 2015, during which total 645 rhinos were found to be living in four national parks of the country. Of them, Chitwan National Park was found to be the biggest home for the one-horned species as it had 605 rhinoceros.
So far, Nepal has conducted the rhino census in 1994, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2011 and 2015.
