Kathmandu, September 25

Prime Minister Prachanda has said the process of Constitution amendment is on track and will give positive result in a few days.

In an interview with Nepal Television on Saturday, he said the trust deficit between political parties has lessened, adding that he is optimistic. On issues like border demarcation, parties are coming closer, he said, adding that all political leaders have a compulsion to show flexibility. Prachanda said he may present a Constitution amendment proposal before Dashain.

At the same time, Prachanda claimed issues related to Hindi language (recongition of Hindi as a ‘national language’) and citizenship (naturalised citizenship in particular) has not figured in discussions on Charter amendment. He expressed surprise over propagation of what he called ‘misleading news’.

He said: Some quarters may have been thinking that they will be able to spoil the environment for consensus by giving misleading vibes. Their designs will not work.

Prachanda also touched upon another hot-button issue: the 25-point joint communique issued during his four-day visit to India. He said the statement is n favour of what he called a ‘non-aligned’ foreign policy.

He said: Whatever agreements I signed with India during the visit are in national interest, there’s  no doubt about that. During my India visit, I apprised India of political developments taking place in Nepal. I did nothing wrong.

Prachanda claimed that India has welcomed Nepal’s Constitution, adding that this is a great feat.
