Nepal imports 355,634 litre drinking water in a year

Kathmandu, July 28

Nepal imported as much as 355,634 litre drinking water (mineral water) in last fiscal year (2016/17), says the Department of Customs. Nepal spent Rs 14.39 million to buy this much drinking water.

The top exporters include India, China, Britain, Philippines, Japan and Malaysia. India exported 230,647 litre water in the period, show the Customs data. This is the highest amount.

The total amount of import, however, is significantly less than the water imported in the fiscal year 2015/16. In that year, Nepal had imported 1 million and 139,636 litre water by spending over Rs 604 million.
