Nepal Home Minister blames ‘Indian interference’ for inundation in Terai

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa

Kathmandu, July 13

Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has commented ‘India’s interference’ resulted in inundation in various places of Nepal’s south in the wake of incessant rainfall for the past few days.

Speaking in a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in Parliament on Monday, the minister said India built various roads along the border that worked as dams, claiming such structures blocked the flow of water causing inundation in Terai.

“Politically speaking, it is interference from India,” Thapa said, “They looked at their own interest, but did not care about Nepal’s interests.”

The minister said Nepal had taken some initiatives to remove such structures but failed. “Some agreements were signed when the Indian PM visited Nepal, but they have not been implemented rightly,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the meeting directed the government to take initiatives to dismantle roads and dams built by India, causing inundation in Nepal.
