Kathmandu, August 23

The Ministry of Health and Population has informed that the country’s Covid-19 tally has reached 31,935 as of Sunday afternoon.

In his daily press briefing in Kathmandu, the ministry’s spokesperson Jageshwor Gautam said 818 new cases were confirmed in the country in the past 24 hours. Of them, 166 cases were reported from the Kathmandu valley.

In this period, 8,026 swab samples were tested. Gautam clarified the number of total tests was a bit low in comparison to the previous days as four labs did not report the total number of tested samples but only positive cases today.

So far, 600,444 people have been tested in the country.

Of the total cases so far 18,631 people have achieved recovery whereas 149 died, according to him. In the past 24 hours, 281 people have been discharged whereas three deaths have been reported. Nepal’s current recovery rate is around 58 per cent.

The other 13,155 cases are active currently. Of them, 9,212 are isolated in hospitals across the country. The rest 3,943 are in home isolation. Among the hospitalised, 137 are in intensive care units and 10 on ventilators.

The disease has spread across all 77 districts of the country. Of them, Morang, Parsa, Rautahat, Mahottari, Sarlahi, and Kathmandu have more than 500 active cases each. Myagdi, Mustang, and Humla do not have any active cases.

Over 11,400 people are quarantined across the country, waiting to be tested.
