NCP’s MCC task force asks party to extend term

L-R: Jhala Nath Khanal, Bhim Rawal, and Pradeep Kumar Gyawali

Kathmandu, February 11

A three-member task force formed by the central committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party to study the Millennium Challenge Corporation grant agreement signed between Nepal and the United States in 2017 is completing its term on Wednesday.

Stating that the team has not been able to complete the assignment, the task force is planning to ask the party leadership to extend the term.

After the central committee members expressed contradictory opinions about the deal, the party on February 2 had assigned its leaders Jhala Nath Khanal, Bhim Rawal and Pradeep Gyawali to study the issue further and submit a report to the party in 10 days. However, a meeting of the task force on Tuesday decided to ask for the extension as the allocated time was not sufficient to prepare the report.

“We have been studying the issue, but the report might not be complete [by tomorrow]. In that case, the term will be extended,” Khanal told the press after the meeting.
