Crucial NCP meeting deferred as Oli-Dahal negotiation continues

L-R: Two chairmen of Nepal Communist Party, KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal, in the party’s standing committee meeting, in Kathmandu, on Saturday, May 2, 2020.

Kathmandu, July 17

The standing committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party scheduled for 11 am today has been referred till 3 in the evening as two chairpersons of the party–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal–have continued their last-minute efforts to find a consensus about the leadership of the party and the government.

The meeting had begun last month but was halted after a majority of the members demanded that Oli resign as both the party chair and the PM, which he vehemently denied.

Oli, Dahal, and Madhav Kumar Nepal had discussed the issue on Thursday, but they failed to make headway yesterday also. Following that, Dahal and Nepal had decided to press the standing committee to call a central committee meeting next month to discuss the issue further.

However, Oli and Dahal met again on Friday morning, and hence the standing committee meeting was postponed for the afternoon.
