NCP meeting adjourned after dispute on district leadership criteria

Kathmandu, June 4

The secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party has been adjourned without taking any formal decision.

The meeting was called to discuss various issues of the party organisation including finalising work division of the central members. However, the discussion could not move ahead as leaders had differences on the criteria to be fixed for the party’s district in-charges, according to a leader.

In particular, the secretariat is divided over whether the leaders holding positions of ministers and lawmakers at provincial and federal levels can become district in-charges and deputies.

Prime Minister and party chairman KP Sharma Oli wants to allow the lawmakers and ministers to lead the party in the districts whereas some influential leaders oppose him.
