Madhav-Kumar-NepalKathmandu, February 23

The ruling Nepal Communist Party has formed a task force to suggest a constitution amendment proposal.

It has been learned that the party is floating the proposal owing to pressure from its vice-chairman Bamdev Gautam. As the party is preparing to appoint him as a National Assembly member, Gautam wants to make sure that he can become the prime minister as the Upper House also.

The party’s senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal leads the panel whereas its other two members are Subas Chandra Nembang and Khim Lal Devkota.

The term of the 19 National Assembly members is expiring next week. Eighteen of them will be replaced by the members elected in the January 23 elections whereas one will be appointed by the president in the Cabinet’s recommendation. The party wants the government to nominate Gautam as the president’s appointee.
