NCP dispute: Madhav Nepal wants to partner with Dahal until next convention

Kathmandu, July 22

As the power struggle in the ruling Nepal Communist Party continues, the faction led by senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has proposed party chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to form a long-term partnership at least until the next convention of the party.

The proposal comes days after another chairman of the party, KP Sharma Oli, has hinted at supporting Dahal for the ‘single’ chairmanship in the next convention.

Dahal, after being wooed by opposition factions of the former CPN-UML side, has remained undecided. He has not answered to anyone.

Currently, both Nepal and Dahal have accused Oli of failure in leading both the party and the government and demanded his resignation from both the positions. Oli, however, has remained adamant against the demand.

Now, the Nepal faction has proposed that Oli could choose one between the premiership and the chairmanship until the convention, and the position he would leave should be given to Dahal. If Oli does not want to make a choice, the party structure, where he is in minority, should make a decision, according to this faction.
