Private sector organisations condemn arrest of Roop Jyoti

Private sector organisations, Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) and Nepal Chambers of Commerce (NCC), have denounced the arrest of industrialist Roop Jyoti and his daughter Suruchi Jyoti. Issuing a statement on Sunday, the FNCCI has said that its attention has been drawn toward the arrest of Jyoti from the Kathmandu airport while returning home and his condition under the detention.

The umbrella organisation of Nepal’s private sector has warned that such highhandedness against industrialists and businesspersons in the country could make an adverse impact on the environment for domestic and foreign investment.

Jyoti, however, has said he has done no wrong.

Dr KC’s health getting worse, hospital asks for help

Dadeldura Hospital has said that the health condition of medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC is getting worse. The hospital has also said that his treatment cannot be done at the hospital as it doesn’t have the necessary equipment. KC has been staging his 17th hunger strike since November 4. His blood pressure and heartbeat rate are increasing, say the doctors.

Transitional justice bodies to take shape soon

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission of Investigation on Enforced Disappeared Persons are likely to have new heads soon, say ministers. Sources say that the government is also looking to amend a few laws to help the transitional justice bodies. The consultation committee has already called for grievance redressal against those who have been selected for the possible appointments. Both Nepal Communist Party and Nepali Congress are working on this issue together.

SAG 2019: Paragliding unlikely

Paragliding is likely to be excluded from the South Asian Games taking place in Nepal from December 1. For the competition to take place, the National Sports Council needs at least three teams. However, so far, only Nepal and India have registered their names. NSC Member Secretary Ramesh Silwal has said the council is trying to have a paragliding competition but things are not looking good.

Province 1 lawmakers being taught how to use Facebook and Twitter

A UNDP programme in Province 1 is teaching provincial lawmakers how to use social media. An NGO named Innovative Vision has been teaching lawmakers on how to use Facebook and Twitter. The training which started on Sunday has a total of 16 provincial lawmakers participating. They are being taught how to effectively use social media platforms.

Kalapani controversy: Nepal to push for secretarial level talks

To solve the ongoing border dispute, both Nepal and India are ready for a foreign secretary-level meeting. The meeting will take place after the visit of Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid. Dates for the meeting, however, have not been made public yet. Sources close to the foreign minister states that India has shown positive signs to solve this dispute.
