Morang hotelier thrashes his guest to death

A hotel customer has died after allegedly being beaten up by the hotel owner, in Urlabari of Morang district, on Sunday night.

SP Santosh Khadka of the District Police Office says the victim has been identified as Sushil Mallik, a permanent resident of Darjeeling in India, currently residing in Urlabari.

He was reportedly beaten up by Gopal Tamang, the owner of Unique Hotel. Fallen unconscious in the incident, Mallik (35) breathed his last while undergoing treatment in Siliguri of India on Monday, according to police.

Mallik, a jeweller by profession, and his wife had visited Tamang’s hotel on Sunday evening. After the couple, both under the influence of alcohol, began to quarrel with each other, Tamang interfered and attacked the husband, it has been learned.

In the quarrel, Tamang got an injury on his head and was rushed to local Godawari Hospital the same night. Citing his treatment was not possible there, the hospital had referred the case to Jhapa-based B&C Hospital, which again forwarded it to Siliguri.

Tamang has been arrested for further investigation.
