Kathmandu, December 11
Six persons have been arrested on the charge of trying to settle a rape case within community barring it from reaching the court.
Recently, the government has enacted an ordinance that has a provision that those involved in community settlement of a rape case also face a criminal charge.
It has been found that the six locals of Dhanpalthan rural municipality-5 of the district settled the case by receiving Rs 500,000 in cash.
Earlier, the police had received a complaint that 32-year-old Suresh Kumar Khawas, a resident of Belbari municipality-8, had raped a local of Dhanpalthan in an evening this September. Later, the victim’s family had agreed to reconcile with the alleged rapist apparently after the community settlement of the case.
Police are looking into the case further after the mediators’ arrest on Thursday.
