Kathmandu, November 30

Nearly two years after they split, Bibeksheel Nepali Party and Sajha Party are preparing to announce their merger again.

Sources on both sides say the preparations have reached the last stage. The two parties have agreed that Rabindra Mishra of Sajha Party will lead the re-unified party as its chairman whereas Bibeksheel’s chief Milan Pandey will be called the coordinator with the second rank in the party.

A leader in the Bibeksheel camp says the two sides are likely to make a deal that the chairperson will have a ceremonial role whereas the coordinator will lead day-to-day affairs of the party functioning.

“But, the final deal is yet to be made,” the leader says.

When the parties had merged earlier, Mishra and Ujwal Thapa, the then chief of Bibeksheel, both had shared the top rank as coordinators.

The two parties had merged as Bibeksheel Sajha Party in the run-up to the 2017 parliamentary elections. However, they had split in early January 2019. The parties have agreed to repeat ‘Bibeksheel Sajha Party’ as the party name.
