Medical education bill: No need to discuss it further, says Dr KC

Dr Govinda KC

Kathmandu, December 26

Medical education reform activist Dr Govinda KC has declined an invitation from Parliament’s Education and Health Committee to discuss the medical education bill presented before the legislature.

The committee had invited KC to discuss the bill before it gives finishing touches to the draft. NCP leader Yogesh Bhattarai, along with the Nepali Congress’ Gagan Thapa, was given the responsibility of inviting Dr KC to the committee meeting. When Thapa and Bhattarai approached KC, he said he had nothing more to say on the issue.

Dr KC reminded the lawmakers that he has already held marathon talks with the Prime Minister and any attempt to discuss things again would be akin to delaying the passage of the bill. “When we tried to meet Dr KC, he said that the bill should incorporate the agreement he signed with the government,” Thapa told Onlinekhabar.
The committee had said it will give finishing touches to the bill and present it before the plenary session of Parliament immediately after it is convened. The session convenes on Wednesday afternoon.
