CMR Nepal launches new academy for Nepali journalists

Kathmandu, December 2

Center for Media Research Nepal, a not-for-profit organisation working in the field of policy-making and media development through research, launched its new venture, CMR Nepal Journalism Academy in Kathmandu on Friday. 

According to the organisers, the academy was launched in collaboration with Germany’s Interlink Academy, with the aim of increasing the digital and thematic capacity of Nepali journalists. 

Ujjwal Acharya, the managing director of the academy, informs the academy will provide training for Nepali journalists in mobile journalism, podcast, digital security, fact check, media literacy and data journalism among other issues from January 2023. Trishna Acharya, the CMR president, says her organisation will continue to assist Nepali journalists in making them technically and practically sound through the academy and its training.

Speaking at the event, Werner Eggert, the managing director of Interlink Academy, also expressed his belief that the training provided by the CMR Nepal Academy would increase the capacity of Nepali journalists and improve the professionalism of journalism.

Also, a guest at the event, German Ambassador to Nepal Thomas Prince highlighted the importance of democracy and independent journalism for a country. He shared his hopes that the new academy would play a role in reducing misinformation and false information

The event was attended by many senior journalists and media educators as well as stakeholders.
