Leftist alliance to launch east-west poll campaign today

Kathmandu, November 5

The leftist alliance of CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre is launching an east-west election campaign on Sunday for upcoming provincial and federal parliamentary elections scheduled for November 26 and December 7.

The campaign is beginning from Taplejung of eastern Nepal and will conclude in Darchula of far-west exactly after a week.

UML Central Office Secretary Krishna Gopal Shrestha says joint mass assemblies will be organised across the country with a message of party unity.

Top leaders of both the parties will address such assemblies, soliciting votes for joint candidates.

However, Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal is unlikely to attend the opening function in Taplejung today. His press coordinator Manahari Timalsina says Dahal will attend a scheduled function in his constituency in Chitwan district today.

Meanwhile, the two parties’ joint Unity Coordination Committee has directed district committees of both the parties to organise election campaigns jointly. Accordingly, joint committees have been formed in many districts.

Sister organisations of the parties are also carrying out various activities jointly.
