Lamjung, March 9

One teenager drowned in the Marsyangdi river in Lamjung while swimming at Siudibar, Sundarbazar municipality of the Lamjung district in Gandaki on Tuesday.

The victim has been identified as Sanish Shrestha (18), a resident of Baisjanghar, Bhanu municipality-9 of the neighbouring Tanahung district. He was staying at the hostel of Future Star Secondary School at Siudibar.

Along with him, two other friends were also swimming, but they are safe. As Shrestha disappeared suddenly, the police were informed and they had launched an investigation.

Meanwhile, some relatives of the victim vandalised the school claiming Shrestha’s death was mysterious and it could be a conspiracy.

Police are investigating the issue.

Of late, children drowning has become a regular affair in Nepal due to the lack of safety measures, insufficient recognition of the problem, and children’s inability to swim among other reasons.
