One of the front-runners of mayoral race in Kathmandu Metropolitan City in the elections held in May this year, Kishore Thapa, says the elected mayor, Bidya Sundar Shakya, ‘wasted’ his first 100 days.

The leader of Bibeksheel Sajha Party says Shakya failed to meet minimum expectations of Kathmandu residents.

“They did not have big expectations, but also I can see they have not been met,” Thapa says, “I have been meeting my supporters and voters and found them hopeless.”

In a recent interview with Onlinekhabar, Thapa comments, “I saw them [newly elected people’s representatives] being felicitated and congratulated with garlands. It seems they have spent entire three months in attending felicitations and other parties.”

“It is natural that you celebrate the victory. But, if you spend 100 days to celebrate the success, the city will not progress.”

The retired government secretary complains that the Mayor did not consult representatives of other political parties in issues of public interest.

“I am very sad to say that he did not remember us, though we are remembering him. Earlier, he had said he would move ahead by consulting everyone,” he says, “We want to participate in the success of our elected people’s representatives.”

“I know it takes time to show results of your action. I know it may take one year for some activity to be seen and three other years for people to use its benefits. But still, you could begin something. You could improve some minor issues like dust and potholes. You could manage pavements,” he says, “The metropolis does not need big money to do something which is already under its control.”

“The situation is hopeless. He had worked as a ward chairperson earlier and now won the top position with good votes. The citizens had many expectations from him; but he could not deliver since the beginning.”
