Kathmandu, July 9
Police in Banepa of Kavrepalanchok district on Tuesday released a man from Syangja district after they could not collect sufficient evidence to prove their suspicion that he attacked a young lady with a syringe on Monday.
Khagendra Prasad Pathak claims that he was innocent and was heading to Dhulikhel Hospital to take care of his ailing brother before locals thrashed him with the allegation.
Jaya Raj Sapkota, chief of the District Police Office, says the locals, who accused him of the attack, also agreed to free Pathak.
After his arrest on Monday, Pathak told police that a 19-year-old lady sitting close to him on a passenger bus felt a sudden pain and she first asked him if he was involved. After a few minutes, the locals forced him to get off the bus and beat up.
Police say they are yet to identify if it was a syringe attack or not.
