Kathmandu, June 28
The man arrested in Kathmandu for carrying out ‘syringe attacks’ in the city says he ‘did it just for fun’.
Santosh Karki (30), who was arrested on the charge of attacking women with syringes ‘infected with life-threatening diseases’, also says he never used a syringe.
“I didn’t use a syringe. I just used a normal nail. And it was done as an experiment, a joke,” said Karki to the police during interrogation. Police say that Karki assured them that his intention wasn’t to transfer diseases to the women.
The arrest comes amid reports that unidentified motorcycle-borne men were attacking women with HIV-infected syringes in Kathmandu.
Police, along with CIB, traced Karki using CCTV footage. “We arrested him last night and he is in custody. Further investigation is ongoing,” informed SSP Sahakul Bahadur Shah. According to DSP Hobindra Bogati, Karki is a restaurant owner and returned to Nepal recently after working abroad. Police say that Karki may have been responsible for four incidents of ‘syringe attacks’ in Kathmandu. However, his involvement in the recent Banepa attack has not been established.
