Kathmandu traffic police to operate help desks for Dashain passengers

Kathmandu, September 6

Like previous years, traffic police in Kathmandu are preparing to open help desks so as to support people leaving Kathmandu for the annual Dashain festival.

Metropolitan Traffic Police Division says the desks would come into operation as soon as the transporters open advance ticket booking for the festival.

DSP Padam Bahadur Bista of the division says a proposal to establish 14 help desks inside the Kathmandu Valley is being discussed. However, a final decision is yet to be made.

According to him, such help desks would be established at Naagdhunga, Kalanki, Swayambhu, Naya Buspark, Purano Buspark, Sundhara, Chabahil, Tilganga, Koteshwar, Jagati, Lagankhel and Balkhu.

The division estimates that over 2.5 million would leave the valley for their hometowns to celebrate Dashain and these help desks are expected to facilitate the passengers. Likewise, the desks will also help police control black marketing of bus tickets.

In the festival’s run-up, passengers often complain of high price of the tickets charged by travel agents as well as the transport operators.

To ensure that passengers are not fleeced, the MTPD will also monitor the public transport leaving the valley.
