File: Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu

Kathmandu, January 25

Police in Kathmandu say they have rescued a two-year-old child from the abductor’s clutches on Friday afternoon. The suspect, however, could not be held.

DSP Habindra Bogati of the Metropolitan Police Range says the security personnel rescued Sandhya Karna, the daughter of Babita Shah, a doctor at Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital (Prasuti Griha) in Thapathali.

Manish Kumar Gupta, whom the family had some unsettled financial transactions with, kidnapped her from the house in Kharibot in Koteshwor this morning, according to police.

Gupta had demanded Rs 250,000 ransom from the victim’s parents.

“We began the search immediately after receiving the information, and rescued her from Tilganga,” Bogati informs.

The official says the suspect will be arrested at the earliest.
