Kathmandu police personnel to receive human rights training amid complaints of torture, misbehaviour

A policeman shouts at Onlinekhabar journalists for interviewing people on the street, in Naya Baneshwar, Kathmandu, on Friday, September 18, 2020.

Kathmandu, September 23

Amid complaints that police personnel inflicted torture on peaceful demonstrators and misbehaved with journalists in the city, the Metropolitan Police Office has decided to provide a training course on human rights to them.

Personnel working in all 243 police units of the valley will receive training, according to the office chief, DIG Bishwa Raj Pokharel.

Pokharel claims additional psychological pressure on them due to the compulsion to work even amid the fears of coronavirus infection might have made them likely to use force unnecessarily.

SSPs Sushil Kumar Yadav and Kiran Bajracharya will train the staff.
