Kathmandu, May 22

Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) officials have started inspecting petrol pumps in Kathmandu after they received complaints that the outlets were neglecting safety measures.

KMC officials said that petrol pumps mainly in Balaju, Kalanki, Kalimati, among other places were inspected in the past two weeks.

KMC Urban Good Governance Department chief Hari Kunwar said the monitoring was conducted to find which of the petrol pumps were hazardous. The process for removing the ‘unsafe’ petrol pumps will start once the status of the petrol pumps becomes available.

Officials say that KMC will close down petrol pumps which pose a threat to human settlements. There are 75 petrol pumps in KMC.
