Kathmandu, July 12

Kathmandu and Lalitpur metropolitan cities will jointly launch a feasibility study about constructing a monorail from Budhanilakantha of Kathmandu to Godawari of Lalitpur.

Both the local units are presenting their annual budget plans at respective Municipal Council meetings scheduled to be held on Thursday.

On the eve of that, mayors of Kathmandu and Lalitpur–Bidya Sundar Shakya and Chiribabu Maharjan–respectively held a meeting on Wednesday and decided to allocate sufficient budget for the ambitious project.

They also agreed to begin the feasibility study as soon as possible.

Lalitpur Mayor Maharjan says many companies have submitted proposals to his office to construct the railway. Among them, a Malaysian company seems to have submitted an appropriate and applicable proposal and it has been asked to explain the proposal further, he informs.

After its presentation, the feasibility study will gets pace, Maharjan hopes.

On the other hand, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City has already signed a memorandum of understanding with a company to launch the feasibility study.
