Kathmandu, February 28
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City on Wednesday handed over Rs 30 million to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, to install CCTV cameras at various locations of the city.
The two sides will finalise exact locations to install cameras through a discussion later.
Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya handed over a cheque to MRP officials amidst a programme held in Kathmandu yesterday.
KMC spokesperson Ishwar Man Dangol says the municipal government assisted police in installing the surveillance cameras so that it would help them maintain peace and security, control crimes and accidents, manage solid waste, minimise pollution, facilitate nighttime travel and conserve public property.
Earlier, the KMC had decided to allocate Rs 30 million for the project in its budget for this fiscal year. Following that, the municipal executive had decided to carry out the project through police.
