Kathmandu, June 5

Under new mayor Balen Shah‘s leadership, the Kathmandu metropolitan city has asked businesses in the city to register for letting their facilities be used as public toilets.

The new mayor has proposed that if toilets of businesses such as restaurants can be set open for the public, the public toilet crisis in the biggest metropolis of the country can end. Accordingly, the city government has given the businesses seven days to register.

The city government’s spokesperson Basanta Acharya says it wants to implement the mayor’s plan in a well-managed way.

Once the registration is over, the city government will sign a contract with such businesses.

The city says hotels, restaurants, banks, business complexes, shopping complexes and malls and other private companies and non-government organisations can let their toilets remain open to the public.
