Over 200 houses near the flooded Mahakali and Jogbudha rivers have been inundated in floodwater in the Kanchanpur district of southwestern Nepal on Tuesday morning.

Rainfall is continuous since Sunday in most districts of the Sudurpaschim province, throwing the daily life of the locals into a standstill, according to officials.

Consequently, the houses in wards 9, 12 and 13 of the Bhimdutta municipality and ward 10 of the Dodhara Chandani municipality have been inundated. Likewise, the flood in the Mahakali river has destroyed an under-construction bridge.

Kanchanpur Chief District Officer Ram Prasad Pandey says the floods in both these rivers are the biggest ever recorded in the last decade.

Meanwhile, DSP Siddha Raj Neupane of the District Police Office says security personnel have launched a mission to relocate the affected families to a safer place. Pandey says local NGOs are also cooperating in the mission.

Officials, however, say no human casualty has been reported so far.
