Kailali Withcraft Torture incident: Policeman suspended for releasing suspect

Twenty-year-old Radha Chaudhary was assaulted for eight hours for practicing ‘witchcraft’, on March 8

The policemen who released the suspect in the Kailali Witchcraft Torture case has been suspended and ordered to report to the headquarters, officials said.

This three days after 20-year-old Radha Chaudhary was assaulted by a self-styled witch doctor in Deukali, Kailali after accusing her of practicing ‘witchcraft’ as villagers silently witnessed the horrendous act of violence.

Sukkhad Area Police acting chief Sub-inspector Dinesh Bista has been suspended from his duty and called to the headquarters, said Province Police chief AIG Madhav Prasad Nepal. According to reports, ‘witch doctor’ Ram Bahadur Chaudhary, brutally assaulted Radha Chaudhary claiming that she was a witch. Police, under Bista’s command, did arrest Ram Bahadur, but he was later released and is now on the run.

The victim of the incident is receiving treatment at the Seti Zonal Hospital in Dhangadhi. Her condition is said to be critical as she has wounds in her stomach, chest, head, legs, throat, nose, ears and other parts of the body.
