Parliamentary committee summons Home Minister over Kailali prison clash

Kathmandu, August 12

A parliamentary committee is set to discuss Friday night’s violent clash at Kailali Prison, in which one inmate was killed and 48 others injured. The incident involved a confrontation between two groups of prisoners that resulted in the death of inmate Bharat Chaudhary.

Following the clash, inmates took control of the prison for nearly 40 hours before authorities regained control. The seriousness of the incident has drawn the attention of the parliamentary Law, Justice and Human Rights Committee, which has scheduled a meeting for 10 am Wednesday at Singha Durbar.

The agenda for the meeting is to discuss “the incident at Kailali Prison on August 8, its impact, and possible solutions.” Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been called to attend the session.
