Kailali, April 30
Tension ran high in Lamki town in Kailali district of Sudurpaschim province on Tuesday after a truck hit killed a college student early in the morning.
The four wheeler (Na 7 Kha 9233) , heading towards west from the east, had hit Sunita Rawal of Lamki Multiple Campus to death.
After the incident, the college students and locals resorted to a street protest demanding action against the culprit. They also demanded a due compensation to the victim’s family.
Police charged the protesters with batons and lobbed tear gas shells to disperse the mob. The demonstrators also retaliated, injuring some police personnel.
The protesters torched the truck and blocked the road.
District Police Office chief SP Aabhushan Timsina says the number of personnel has been upped in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
