Jhapa man killed in APF firing

Jhapa, August 27

A local has died after an Armed Police Force troop opened fire at him in Jhapa rural municipality of Jhapa of eastern Nepal on Wednesday late afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Rasikul Alam (38), informs APF DIG Raju Aryal.

Earlier, the police had arrested two persons on the charge of slaughtering an ox. Locals had protested the act and clashed with the law enforcers while the arrestees were being taken to Birtamod of the district.

The APF says a crowd of over 200 persons attacked the troop forcing them to open fire in retaliation.

Killing ox is considered illegal in Nepal as the cow is considered the national animal.
