Jhapa, November 5
A total of 60,570 families, including landless people, landless squatters and informal settlers, have submitted applications seeking land ownership certificates in Jhapa, according to the Land Issue Resolving Commission.
Chief District Officer Shrawan Kumar Pokharel, who chairs the commission, said 2,896 applications had been received from landless Dalit families, 15,783 from landless squatters and 41,851 from informal settlers.
In addition, the commission has identified 5,296 families whose applications remained incomplete or unresolved by previous commissions.
Pokharel said the revenue rates for land management had also been revised. Under the new provision, revenue has been fixed at 12 per cent of the minimum valuation for residential land and seven per cent for agricultural land.
He said employees and officials of the Jhapa Land Issue Resolving Commission were working around the clock to resolve land-related problems faced by the public as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives, Federal Affairs and General Administration Pratibha Rawal met landless families in various local governments across the district on Monday and Tuesday.
She informed them that the current government was preparing to permanently resolve the problem of landlessness and distribute land ownership certificates.
During discussions with the Land Issue Resolving Commission and chief administrative officers of local governments, Minister Rawal directed them to give top priority to the distribution of land ownership certificates.
