It is now mandatory for drivers of public vehicles to wear shoes.
A meeting of traffic police officials and representatives from various transport companies and unions endorsed the decision at a meeting on Monday. The meeting saw the traffic police urge drivers to wear shoes as driving without wearing shoes can cause accidents.
The agreement was part a 19-point commitment signed by the transport companies following the meeting, said SSP Bim Prasad Dhakal. “If a driver does not wear shoes, when he starts sweating, it becomes difficult to press the brake,” he said adding that this could lead to an accident. Dhakal informed that an eight-member committee has been formed with representatives from the unions and the traffic police to monitor if the commitments are adhered to.
