At least six people died in a bus accident in Palpa on Thursday night.

A passenger bus carrying passengers from Saljhundi in Rupandehi to Khusarne had an accident near Madhuwan Tariphant of the Rainadevi Chhahara rural municipality ward 8 at around 9:30 on Thursday night.

The senior constable Lila Bahadur KC of the police station in Juthapauwa informs the bus (Ga 1 Kha 4977) fell about 60 metres from the road. The police’s preliminary investigations say the accident might have happened due to issues with the brake and steering wheel.

The deceased have been identified as Khim Kumari Rana Magar, Nirmala Ghimire, Suruma Ghimire, Dan Kumari Khatri, Guni Gaha and Bima Pandey.

As of Friday morning, 16 people were reported injured in the accident. The injured are being treated at Lumbini Zonal Hospital in Butwal.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, in a tweet, offered condolences to the victims of the accident.

The owner of the bus and its co-driver are on the run.
