Inundation hits life hard in Nepalgunj; locals urged to stay on high alert

Inundation in Nepalgunj of Banke, on Monday, July 2, 2018.

Banke, July 2

Incessant rainfall since last night has left many places of Nepalgunj city in Banke district of mid-western Nepal inundated. Consequently, life has been hit hard here.

Locals say New Road, Setu BK Chok, Birendra Chok among other places of the core city and neighbouring villages in Belaspur, Dhambojhi, Gharparitole, Phultekra, Bus Park, Bhrikuti Nagar and Banke have been inundated.

Trade and business activities as well as public transportation have been affected due to the inundation. People have been forced to stay indoors postponing their visits to other places.

Only few students have attended schools whereas government and private offices have also worn a deserted look.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged locals, especially those living nearby rivers and lower areas, to stay on high alert against floods. Likewise, people living by Rapti, Duduwa and other rivers have been asked to find some high land in case they need to evacuate the current settlements, according to Chief District Officer Ramesh Kumar KC.

The administration says the water level in Rapti may cross the danger level.

Meanwhile, security personnel have also kept on standby for needful rescue and relief operations.
