The local administration has imposed a curfew in Nepalgunj of Banke.

The local administration had to intervene after signs of social and religious disharmony emerged in the city. Tensions had been escalating between the Hindu and Muslim communities in the area.

On Tuesday, a group of Hindus gathered in Nepalgunj and initiated a demonstration. The curfew was imposed in response to indications that a clash might occur, potentially leading to a breakdown of harmony. In anticipation of possible tension, a solidarity rally was also conducted in Nepalgunj this morning.

On Monday, the District Administration Office Banke issued an urgent notice, urging individuals to refrain from engaging in activities that offend religious beliefs or promote religious animosity. It emphasised that failure to comply would result in strict measures being taken in accordance with the Local Administration Act of 1971 and existing laws.
