Indonesian Independence Day marked in Kathmandu with flag hoisting ceremony

Kathmandu, August 17

The Office of the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Indonesia in Nepal marked the 80th anniversary of Indonesian Independence with a flag hoisting ceremony at the IME Complex, Panipokhari, on Sunday.

Honorary Consul Chandra Prasad Dhakal, who is also the Chairperson of IME Group, unfurled Indonesia’s red and white national flag to commemorate the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Dhakal highlighted the growing diplomatic ties between Nepal and Indonesia since the formal establishment of relations in 1960.

Dhakal, who also heads the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said bilateral relations have advanced in recent years, particularly in trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. He noted Indonesia’s emergence as a key trade partner for Nepal and its growing appeal as a tourism destination in the ASEAN region.

“Both countries are actively engaging in initiatives that promote mutual benefit, including cultural exchanges and tourism collaboration,” Dhakal said, adding that the partnership reflects shared values and long-term cooperation.

Expressing appreciation for the Indonesian community in Nepal, Dhakal described their participation in the celebration as a symbol of enduring friendship and commitment to a prosperous future.

The ceremony, attended by members of the Indonesian community, dignitaries, and well-wishers, concluded with reflections on the cultural and economic significance of Indonesia and the potential for deeper collaboration with Nepal, especially in commerce and tourism.
