Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Chakra Pani Khanal says it was his mistake to keep Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the dark about a letter sent by the Indian Embassy in Nepal asking the government to withdraw the preside residue test imposed on the import of fruits and vegetables.

Khanal’s statement comes around one month after Oli publicly admitted that he was not informed by officials about the letter on time.

Speaking at a meeting of the Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resource Committee in Parliament, Khanal informed that Oli was given the letter two days after he said India had not piled any pressure on Nepal to withdraw the system.

Meanwhile, Khanal claimed the letter should not be interpreted negatively.

“The Embassy has not written anything wrong in the letter. They just argued we should let them export as per an agreement,” he said, “They were allowed to raise the question.”
