Implementing laws on fundamental rights is difficult: NHRC

The constitutional human rights watchdog, National Human Rights Commission, has says implementing the laws formulated to ensure fundamental rights listed in the 2015 constitution is difficult.

The Commission made the remark as it submitted its annual report to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Sunday.

On the occasion, the Commission’s Chairman Anup Raj Sharma said the country’s human rights situation was not satisfactory.

Sharma also informed that the Commission’s annual report for fiscal year 2-17/18 highlighted the government’s failure to provide justice to the victims of the decade-long war though it has already been more than 10 years after the end of the war.

According to the report, the Commission registered 152 human rights violation cases in one year. Likewise, it carried out investigation into 350 old and new cases.

The Commission conducted 463 monitoring events and 324 human rights promotion programmes in the period.
