House panel meeting adjourned citing more than 25 people’s presence

File: A State Affairs Committee meeting

Kathmandu, March 19

In the past months, there were many reports that several meetings in various committees in the Federal Parliament could not take place as they fell short of a quorum. However, in a strange case today, the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee could not hold its meeting completely because there were ‘more people’ than necessary.

The committee was discussing a bill the government has registered to maintain ties among three tiers of the government.

While the meeting was underway, some lawmakers representing both ruling and opposition sides, said the meeting should not be held as there were more than 25 people and the government just on Wednesday had urged the public not to gather more than 25 persons at a place. The government decision was aimed at controlling the possible spread of coronavirus infection.

Owing to the lawmakers’ demand, the committee’s chair Shashi Shrestha immediately postponed the meeting.
