Home Ministry directs authorities to tighten crackdown on people without masks

Kathmandu, July 26

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed district authorities to tighten their crackdown on people refusing to use masks in public places considering threats of coronavirus spread.

With the government ending the fourth-month-long lockdown last week, some people have felt it secure again to walk without masks, but it has put themselves and others at risk, the ministry says, instructing all 77 district administration offices and the Nepal Police to take immediate action against people not using masks as requested.

The ministry’s information officer Uma Kanta Adhikari says the ministry has already issued a circular directing the authorities to arrest people refusing to wear a mask, adding the ministry reminded them of the circular again. The government has authorised officials to take action against those arrested for this offence as per the Infectious Disease Act.

Meanwhile, the ministry has also directed district authorities to report details of the action taken against people without masks on a daily basis.
