Hearing on Silwal’s case to continue on June 15

Supreme Court of Nepal

Kathmandu, June 1

The Supreme Court says the final hearing on a petition filed by Nepal Police DIG Nawaraj Silwal will continue after two weeks, on June 15.

A seven-member full bench comprising justices Cholendra Shamsher Rana, Jagadish Sharma Paudel, Deepak Kumar Karki, Kedar Prasad Chalise, Sapana Pradhan Malla, Tej Bahadur KC and Purushottam Bhandari had heard the case today.

Earlier, the hearing was scheduled for May 18. But, it was put off citing citing one of the justices assigned for the case was a relative of the plaintiff.

Before this, the final hearing was slated for May 2, but was put off after the ruling coalition filed a motion to impeach Chief Justice Sushila Karki in Parliament.

Silwal in the petition has claimed that he be appointed Nepal Police chief. A writ filed by Silwal’s batch-mate Prakash Aryal, who has been made the IGP, with a contesting claim is also heard together.
