Kathmandu, March 29
A habeas corpus petition has been filed at the Supreme Court demanding the release of CPN-UML Chairperson and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The petition was filed on behalf of his wife, Radhika Shakya, claiming that Oli has been unlawfully arrested and detained.
The petition was registered today, and the hearing has been scheduled for Monday.
Oli, along with former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, was arrested on Chaitra 14 (Saturday) on charges of suppressing the Gen Z movement.
The CPN-UML has termed the arrests of Oli and Lekhak as “illegal” and biased, and has decided to challenge them both politically and legally.
Following his arrest, Oli has been kept at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
