Govt to insure citizens below poverty line

The government has announced that it would provide life insurance, free of cost, to those living below the poverty line.

The announcement was made by Minister for Finance Yuba Raj Khatiwada while speaking at the Rastriya Beema Sansthan’s anniversary event.

Stating that in Nepal about 1.6 million people live below the poverty line, he informed the government would pay the premium on their behalf.

“With a premium of Rs 3,500, one can claim Rs 100,000 at present,” said Khatiwada adding, “Those 1.6 million people below the poverty line do not need to pay this, the government will pay on their behalf.”

He also expressed his happiness that 22 per cent of the people have insurance today.
